Felix Yonger (7g Oscar-Marble Sound, by Be My Native) easily fought off odds-on favourite Defy Logic when making an impressive winning comeback in the G2 Craddockstown Chase at Punchestown on Sunday.
The son of Oscar, who was bred by J Brophy, was a G2 winner over hurdles last season before finishing second in the G1 Neptune Investment Management Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival and he looks a highly exciting recruit to chasing after this victory under Ruby Walsh.
“That looked impressive to me,” said trainer Willie Mullins after the Punchestown success. “He’s in the G1 Drinmore Novice Chase, but that may come too quick for him. His jumping was very good at the business end.
“Ruby said he was idling in front which would lead you to believe there’s more in the locker. We’ll see how he comes out of this; I might put him by until Christmas as he had a tough race. I don’t think he needs to go up in trip. I’d be happy to stay at two miles.”
