First Grade One Winner for Scat Daddy

Progressive filly Lady of Shamrock (3f Scat Daddy x Blushing Issue, by Blushing John) scored a career best win in the $350,000 Grade I American Oaks at Betfair Hollywood Park on the weekend.

The John Sadler trained filly has been in good form this year winning the Group II Providencia Stakes and China Doll Stakes, before finishing second in the Group II Honeymoon Handicap at her most recent run.

She settled off the pace for Mike Smith and the powered home along the fence to win the mile and a quarter contest by a length and a quarter, her overall record now five wins and two placings from nine starts with prizemoney of $465,400.

“The leader [Nayarra] didn’t corner too well and that really helped us out, because it opened the race up and I was able to get up in there and on through,” said winning rider Mike Smith.

“I know what she is capable of, but she was a little on her toes warming up, and I was a little bit concerned she might be a little bit aggressive today, but honestly she turned off really well once the gates opened, and after that got into a great rhythm.”

Her trainer John Sadler indicated that Lady of Shamrock would likely run next in the Grade I Del Mar Oaks on August 18.

Raced by Hronis Racing LLC, Lady of Shamrock is a half-sister to Grade II winner Smooth Jazz, stakes-winner She’s Sensational and is one of five winners from Blushing Issue, a half-sister to Grade I winner Royal Chariot.

She is the first Grade I winner for last year’s US Champion First Season Sire Scat Daddy.
