First Stakes Performer for So You Think

The Leon and Troy Corstens trained Conscious (2f So You Think x Elimbari, by Fastnet Rock) has the honour of becoming the first stakes horse for So You Think after finishing a fine second to smart colt Weatherly in the Listed VRC Talindert Stakes at Flemington on Saturday.

Drawn on the outside next to the winner Weatherly, the pair made their way down the grandstand side of the track, the colt proving a touch strong for the filly with the rest of the field some five lengths back with spring stakes-winner Jackson doing best to finish third.

A $180,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock from the Yarraman Park draft, Conscious was bred by Bob Hannon at his Ascot Park Stud.

She is the second foal of Group III placed Elimbari, a three-quarter sister by Fastnet Rock to Group II STC Silver Slipper winner Amelia’s Dream.

The current yearling colt from Elimbari by Pierro made $85,000 at Magic Millions and she has another Pierro filly to follow.

The best son of ill-fated High Chaparral, So You Think has had only three starters to date and two of them have been placed with Conscious stamping herself as a highly promising filly.

She is bred on the same cross as High Chaparral’s rising star three year-old Tivaci (3c High Chaparral x Breccia, by Fastnet Rock), winner of the Group III VRC Colin Hayes Stakes at Flemington.

So You Think is off to a promising start to his stud career and covered 172 mares last year in Australia at a fee of $49,500.
