First Stakes Success for Battle Force

Giant's Causeway conformation

Lightly raced entire Battle Force (4h Giant’s Causeway x Leo’s Pegasus by Fusaichi Pegasus) found his best form to score a determined win in the $78,700 Thunder Road Stakes at Santa Anita on the weekend.

Prepared by John Shirreffs for Woodford Racing LLC, Battle Force has been placed in good company in the past and brought his A game to this one mile contest on turf.

He stalked the pace on the fence and moved clear in the straight before holding off a challenge from Fed Biz ( 4h Giant’s Causeway x Spunoutacontrol, by Wild again) to win by a head.

Battle Force has the overall record of two wins and four placings from seven starts with prizemoney in excess of $140,000.

He is the first stakes-winner for stakes-placed Leo’s Pegasus, who comes from the family of Grade I stars Hector Protector, Bosra Sham and Act One, etc.

Battle Force is the 124th stakes-winner for champion sire Giant’s Causeway, who is the sire of the dam of leading Kentucky Derby contender Verrazano, winner of the Grade I Wood Memorial at Aqueduct on Saturday.
