Flemensfirth and Yeats dominate Land Rover Sale

Coolmore inmates Flemensfirth and Yeats were responsible for all of the six-figure lots on a lively opening day of the 2016 Land Rover Sale at Goffs on Tuesday. Leading the way was a €110,000 son of Flemensfirth (pictured) who was sold to agent Aiden Murphy. The three-year-old, out of the Overbury mare Day’s Over, hails from the family of Deep Sensation and was bred by David Reynolds and Edward Spellman. “He’s been bought to come back to England and the plan would be for him to come back to me and then a decision will be in due course as to where he will go into training. He’s just a very nice horse by a very good sire,” said Murphy. Mags O’Toole, who had been underbidder to Murphy, had more luck when getting a €100,000 three-year-old full-brother to Nicky Henderson’s exciting G1-placed novice hurdler O O Seven (6g Flemensfirth-Kestral Heights, by Eagle Eyed). “We missed out on the earlier Flemensfirth, but we were very pleased to get this one and he is a full-brother to a very smart horse of Nicky Henderson’s. I’ve bought him for an established client who will keep him in Ireland to go into training,” said O’Toole. Meanwhile Joseph O’Brien, who has made a great start since being granted him training licence, went to €100,000 for an Aidan Sexton-bred Yeats three-year-old half-brother to the classy hurdler Desert Cry. “He’s a lovely horse, a nice athletic type. I have a few orders, so I wouldn’t be 100 per cent sure who he is for, but he’s a good sort and we were pleased to get him,” said O’Brien.
