The classy Hazel Lavery (2f Excellent Art-Reprise, by Darshaan) brought Excellent Art another decent first-crop success when winning a quality Newbury conditions event on Friday.
The Charlie Hills-trained filly, a 100,000gns yearling who finished third in a Newmarket maiden on her debut, took the seven-furlong contest by two lengths and could now step up in class for the G2 Rockfel Stakes.
“We’ve always liked her and she made a lot of ground up at Newmarket after running green,” Hills told TDN. “She’s going to grow into quite a nice three-year-old and is a nice laid-back filly who might get further than a mile in time. We’ll probably give her one more run this year and a race like the G2 Rockfel Stakes is an obvious one, although she is in a couple of sales races at Newmarket as well.”
Excellent Art was also making the headlines at Kempton on Wednesday night when the Richard Hannon-trained Graphic (2c Excellent Art-Follow My Lead, by Night Shift) took a seven-furlong conditions event by no less than three lengths.
