Royal Caviar (5g Vinnie Roe-Blackwater Babe, by Arctic Lord) maintained his unbeaten status when capturing the G2 Future Champions INH Flat Race at Navan on Sunday under Patrick Mullins.
The Vinnie Roe five-year-old finished two and a quarter lengths clear of his field, in the process earning a quote of 14/1 from bookmakers for the G1 Weatherbys Champion Bumper at Cheltenham.
“The time was good and any time that you go under four minutes means you have a nice type. He´s a fine big chasing type and he was long odds-on so we felt that there was no point giving up ground and we decided to ride him more positively than we did at Fairyhouse,” winning trainer Willie Mullins told the Racing Post.
“The plan before today was to keep him in bumpers but we´ll have to see now after that. I´ve a feeling the second is a lot better than we gave him credit for. He looked a lovely horse in the parade ring.”
Bred by Kevin Fox, Royal Caviar sold for £90,000 at Cheltenham in April after winning a point-to-point on his debut and he went on to score on his first bumper start at Fairyhouse in November.
