Galileo’s Marengo on Derby trail

Battle Of Marengo (3c Galileo-Anna Karenina, by Green Desert) is rated just an 8/1 chance for the Epsom Derby after a stylish comeback success at Leopardstown on Sunday. The Galileo colt, winner of last season’s G2 Beresford Stakes, stayed on well to take the G3 Ballysax Stakes under Joseph O’Brien. The jockey’s father, trainer Aidan O’Brien, reported that a return to Leopardstown for the G2 Derrinstown Derby Trial in May could be the next stop. “Battle of Marengo is a lovely horse and, as a start off, you couldn’t be happier with that,” said the trainer. “That was his first time beyond a mile and he wasn’t stopping. The ground is really heavy but he’s a beautiful mover and he’d prefer real good ground. He’ll come back here again for the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial before hopefully going to Epsom.”
