Getaway ex Tierneys Choice gelding selling for €160,000 at Goffs

Getaway dominates Day 1 of Land Rover Sale

Getaway not only provided the €160,000 top lot at day one of the Goffs Land Rover Sale on Tuesday but he was responsible for three of the nine dearest offerings. Representatives of the young Coolmore NH sire, whose first runners have made such a bright start, were headed by a three-year-old out of the Oscar mare Tierneys Choice offered by Brown Island Stables and bought by Joseph O’Brien. "He's a lovely, big scopey horse from a very nice family,” said O’Brien of his €160,000 purchase, who hails from a high-class chasing family (pictured). “We have a nice Getaway at home that ran well in his bumper at Fairyhouse last year." Another Getaway in demand was a three-year-old son of the Old Vic mare Saintly Lady offered from Lakeview Farm. Mouse Morris signed the ticket at €120,000 for this gelding from the family of Cathcart Chase and Whitbread Gold Cup winner Brown Windsor as well as Grand National runner-up Sunnyhillboy. Morris said: "He's a lovely, attractive, racy type, and has a lot going for him. He's been bought off a very good farm. His sire has also done very well with his early runners." Gordon Elliott was another Getaway admirer, paying €100,000 for a three-year-old out of a half-sister to five black-type winners including Irish Grand National hero Glebe Lad. The gelding is a sibling to Miracle In Medinah (6g Milan-Annaghbrack, by Rudimentary), who won his only start for Elliott. "His half-brother is a very nice horse that won a bumper at Fairyhouse in March," said Elliott. “This is a nice horse and it is a real nice family.” Meanwhile, the late Fame And Glory continues to make a splash with his first store offerings including a €100,000 three-year-old bought by Joseph O’Brien.
