Talented colt Giant Run (3c Giant’s Causeway x Who Did it and Run, by Polish Numbers) ended 2016 in a winning vein when taking out the $75,000 Tropical Park Derby at Gulfstream on Saturday.
A stakes-winner at Gulfstream earlier this year, Giant Run enjoyed a smooth run in transit for Joe Bravo before surging to the line to win the 1 and 1/16th mile turf contest by a length and a half.
Prepared by Thomas Albertrani, Giant Run has the overall record of five wins and four placings from 14 starts with prizemoney topping $419,000.
“When I walked into the winner’s circle, I looked right at Tom in the eyes and said, ‘This is one of my favorite horses’,” said Joe Bravo.
“It’s just for the simple fact that he makes my job really easy. He’s one of the horses that breaks great and puts himself in position. Tom [Albertrani] had him ready. His last race was a bad and troubled trip–he never had a chance. We threw that race out and had him ready for today.”
A half-brother to stakes-winner American Victory from Grade II winner Who Did it and Run, Giant Run was a $200,000 Keeneland September Yearling purchase.
