Goodwood G3 winner for Canford Cliffs

First-crop Canford Cliffs filly Al Jazi (3f Canford Cliffs-Rainbow Crossing, by Cape Cross) ran out a decisive winner of the G3 Oak Tree Stakes at Glorious Goodwood on Friday.

Al Shaqab Racing’s filly made a successful foray across the Channel from Francois Rohaut’s stable as she powered clear up the straight to score by a length and three-quarters with Gregory Benoist in the saddle.

“This was quite a long term target,” said Rohaut. “We knew she was good enough to run well. This was the first time she’s encountered a very good pace and that is what she needs to win a good race.

“She had everything today. Good pace, good draw and good going. She always showed she was good enough to win a race like this. She is decent.”

A 160,000 euros yearling, Al Jazi was bred by Skymarc Farm.
