Gospel hits right note for Galileo in G2

Cheveley Park Stud home-bred Gospel Choir (5g Galileo-Chorist, by Pivotal) continued his excellent start to the season when comfortably winning the G2 Yorkshire Cup at York on Friday to add to a great recent run for champion sire Galileo.

Ryan Moore’s mount, winner of the G2 Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket on his previous start, always looked set to justify favouritism in the mile and six furlongs contest and connections feel the five-year-old may be suited a by a step back in trip.

Trainer Sir Michael Stoute commented: “He's a very admirable, competitive horse who sticks his neck out and doesn't like to get beaten. Ryan had doubts about the trip and he gave the horse a very good ride.

“What's very important to him is the ground, he doesn't want bad ground. I'd think the G2 Hardwicke Stakes (over 1m 4f at Royal Ascot) would be favourite for his next run.”

Moore added: “I'm not sure he really wants a mile and six but he was good enough today.”
