Grade Three Winner for Majestic Warrior

Promising young sire Majestic Warrior was in hot form on the weekend with a string of good performances from his three year-olds led by Declan’s Warrior (3c Majestic Warrior x Comanche Star, by Saint Ballado), who captured the Grade III Bay Shore Stakes at Aqueduct.

Having his first crack at a Black Type event, the Nick Zito trained Declan’s Warrior settled at the rear and produced a long surge down the middle of the track to score a thrilling head victory in the seven furlong contest.

“First time he ran, breaking his maiden at Belmont, that’s how he came,” said Nick Zito.

“He came with a run. I told Jose [Lezcano], don’t take him out of his game, because that’s a no-no. In this particular situation, it worked out. The speed got going, and he got going in the end.”

“He could be a special horse. Honestly, he could be better than we think. Let’s just keep taking our time and go from there.”

A homebred for Lucky Shamrock Escrow, Declan’s Warrior has the overall record of three wins and a second from four starts with priezmoney of $271,770.

He is a half-brother to stakes-winner Canonize and is the second winner for Comanche Star, a grand-daughter of Grade I winner Deceit.

Declan’s Warrior is the fifth stakes-winner for Majestic Warrior, whose oldest progeny are just three year-olds.

Majestic Warrior nearly made it a Graded stakes double when Princess of Sylmar (3f Majestic Warrior x Storm Dixie, by Catienus) finished a gallant second in the Grade II Gazelle Stakes at Aqueduct.

The Todd Pletcher trained filly tried hard behind the winner Close Hatches, who is headed for the Grade I Kentucky Oaks.

Also saluting for Majestic Warrior was talented three year-old Rienzi (3c Majestic Warrior x On a Lark, by The Prime Minister), who scored by six and a half lengths at Parx Racing.

Now with John Servis, Rienzi has won two of four starts and can win better races judging by this dominant victory.

A $350,000 purchase from the Fasig Tipton February Two Year Olds in Training Sale, Rienzi runs for Fox Hill Farms and is a half-brother to stakes-winner Mr Pursuit.
