Grade Three Winner for Scat Daddy

Almasty (Scat Daddy) winning the Commonwealth Turf Stakes (Gr.3) at Churchill Downs

Progressive three year-old Almasty (3c Scat Daddy x Minicolony, by Pleasant Colony) scored a career best win in the $100,000 Grade III Commonwealth Turf Stakes at Churchill Downs on Friday.

Prepared by Brad Cox, he led throughout to win the 1 and 1/16th mile contest by more than four lengths taking his overall record to four wins from 10 starts with prizemoney nearing $160,000.

“Going to the lead wasn’t really the plan,” revealed Brad Cox.

“It looked like on paper that there was a lot of speed and we kind of thought we’d be laying third or fourth saving ground around the first turn, but he ended up on the lead.

“This horse is real sharp, he had a good work nine days ago, he had a five-eighths in :59-and-4 which is real sharp. He’s been doing great and just really showed it today.”

A $140,000 Keeneland September purchase, Almasty is a half-brother to stakes-placed York Glory, Sea Pines, and Suzy Smart being the best of eight winners from Minicolony.

Almasty is the 66th stakes-winner for Scat Daddy and is his ninth Graded stakes-winner in North America for 2015.
