Group One Quinella for Rock of Gibraltar

Australian bred two year-old fillies fought out the finish of the Group I Allan Robertson Championship at Scottsville in South Africa on Saturday with victory going to Alboran Sea (2f Rock of Gibraltar x Lady's Light, by Toolighttoquit) over Rich Girl (2f Rock of Gibraltar x Miss Moguls, by Giant's Causeway) to give former Rock of Gibraltar a notable quinella.

The Mike de Kock trained Alboran Sea made it two wins in as many starts when she surged clear to win the 1200 metre sprint by two and a quarter lengths.

Bred and offered for sale by Rosemont Stud, Alboran Sea was a $105,000 Inglis Premier purchase and is a sibling to stakes-placed Trafalgar Legacy and Light Express being the fifth winner from five to race from well bred import Lady’s Light (USA).

Runner-up in the race Rich Girl has already won two races this season including the Group III Strelitzia Stakes, so is also a high class filly.

Alboran Sea is the 11th Group I winner worldwide for Rock of Gibraltar and comes from his last Australian bred crop of foals.

Another of Rock of Gibraltar’s Group I winners in Australian bred Seventh Rock also featured at Scottsville as the sire of two year-old colt Guiness, who won the Group I Sun Medallion Stakes.
