Cherry Collect (3f Oratorio-Holy Moon, by Hernando) saw off a dozen rivals to capture the Italian 1,000 Guineas in Rome on Sunday.
Trained by Stefano Botti, the Oratorio filly had won three times in Listed company last year, and was produced with a well-timed run by jockey Fabio Branca to win the G3 Premio Regina Elena.
Botti and Branca had teamed up earlier on the card to win the Italian 2,000 Guineas with Malossol.
TDN reported: “Cherry Collect was produced late by Fabio Branca in an almost carbon
copy of his earlier delivery of the Parioli winner Malossol. Settled in mid-division early, she was brought into the centre of the track for her effort as Last Night Show cut loose at the head of affairs with a quarter mile remaining. Responding in game fashion, Cherry Collect reeled in her arch-rival in the dying strides to cap a memorable day for the Botti family.”
Owner Felice Villa told Jour de Galop: “She is a fantastic filly, who is always very quiet – even with a delayed start here. She is truly capable of everything and I’m a very happy owner.”
Cherry Collect was bred by Razza del Velino and made 65,000 euros at the SGA September Yearling Sale in 2010.
