Fastnet Rock head shot

Guineas Winner for Fastnet

The $150,000 Listed Bendigo Guineas was won in fine style by progressive gelding Milwaukee (3g Fastnet Rock x Hummingbird, by Galileo), yet another smart stakes-winner foaled and raised at Coolmore Australia. A last start winner at Pakenham, the Mike Moroney trained three year-old led all the way and forged clear to win the 1400 metre contest by two and a quarter lengths, his third win from s even starts with prizemoney topping $120,000. Winning rider Patrick Moloney said mental maturity has been the key to Milwaukee finding his form. "I've had a fair bit to do with him at Mike's and I think he's just going to keep on evolving as a racehorse as he gets older," Moloney said. "It's a terrific training performance by Mike and the team. He's a horse that sort of fell by the wayside through the spring when he didn't quite measure up but now he's a bit more seasoned and building on the promise he showed early. "He's still got a bit to learn but he's a Fastnet Rock, a big strong fellow who still doesn't know his own strength at the moment." A $300,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Coolmore draft for Paul Moroney Bloodstock, Milwaukee is the best of five winners from Galileo mare Hummingbird, a half-sister to Group II winner Flying Pegasus from Group II winner Cashier. Hummingbird was covered last year by Scat Daddy’s Group I winning son No Nay Never. Milwaukee is the 111th stakes-winner for champion sire Fastnet Rock and is his 11th bred from a daughter of champion sire Galileo. The nick runs at an impressive 75% winners to runners!
