Gulfstream Debut Winner for Stay Thirsty

Nonna Bella (Stay Thirsty) winning a maiden at Gulfstream Park

A homebred for the Repole Stable, superbly bred filly Nonna Bella (3f Stay Thirsty x Nonna Mia, by Empire Maker) opened her career with a tenacious victory at Gulfstream on the weekend.

Sent out a hot favourite for the six and a half furlong maiden, the Todd Pletcher trained filly made all the play in front and despite tiring near the line had enough left to win by a neck.

Nonna Bella is the third winner for Grade I placed Nonna Mia, whose previous two winners are Grade I Wood Memorial Stakes winner Outwork and stakes-placed Nonna’s Boy.

Nonna Mia was recently bred back to Outwork’s sire Uncle Mo.

Stay Thirsty also had another impressive maiden winner at Turfway Park with Fulkerson (3c Stay Thirsty x Clambake, by Grand Lodge) scoring by five and three-quarter lengths over six and a half furlongs at his second start.
