The Charles Byrnes-trained Our Vinnie (5g Vinnie Roe-Boopsey, by Old Vic) battled in courageous style to win the G3 Liberty Insurance Novice Hurdle at Limerick on Friday.
The Vinnie Roe gelding, who had landed a G3 novice hurdle at Cork on his previous start, blundered at the final obstacle but still fought back to beat odds-on favourite Pride Ofthe Parish in a photo for the three-mile contest under Niall Madden.
“Our Vinnie is very genuine and tough. He pecked at the back of the last but picked up well on the run-in,” Madden told irishracing.com
The five-year-old, who was bred by Pat McCreevey, was winning 24 hours after Mumbo Jumbo (5g Vinnie Roe-Top Lot, by Topanoora) carried Barry Connell’s colours to victory in a competitive maiden hurdle at Leopardstown’s Christmas meeting.
“He is a nice horse and it has worked out well. We will find a winners of one for him now,” said trainer Mags Mullins.
The Vinnie Roe gelding, who was bred by John O’Connor, was bought by Mullins for 60,000 euros as a foal at Tattersalls Ireland.
