Exciting prospect Contributer (5h High Chaparral x Serisia, by Exit to Nowhere) captured the Group III MRC David Jones Cup at Caulfield on Saturday.
Last seen winning a Listed race at Royal Ascot in June the lightly raced Irish bred five year-old made it five wins from 10 starts when taking out the 2000 metre event by more than a length for James McDonald.
“A lot of the credit for this win belongs to the team. Kate Grimwade in Newmarket and David Charles and Richard Cronin at Flemington, they’ve done a great job,” said winning trainer John O’Shea.
“James (McDonald) and I have just turned up. We tuned up him up during the week and he was ready to go.”
O’Shea was unsure of the next target for Contributer, although indicated the Group I VRC Mackinnon Stakes might be an option.
A private purchase by Godolphin with Australia in mind, O’Shea said there is plenty of improvement to come in Contributer.
“We’ll let the dust settle, John Ferguson is down and we’ll talk it over, see what the team thinks and see how the horse pulls up. He’s got plenty of upside, that’s for sure,” he said.
Contributer is the best of four winners from Group III winner Sersia and is one of 60 stakes-winners worldwide for High Chaparral, who has enjoyed so much success in Australia through the likes of So You Think, Dundeel and Descarado.
