Hill Stakes Win for Trusting

Trusting (5h Tale of the Cat x Legible, by Zabeel) returned from the racing wilderness to win the Group II ATC Chelmsford Stakes at Warwick Farm a fortnight ago and then confirmed that win was no fluke by thrashing a handy field to win the Group II ATC Hill Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday. The John Thompson trained Trusting jumped well and cruised along in second place, before powering away in the straight to win the 2000 metre staying test by more than three lengths for Singapore based rider Joao Moreira, who scored aboard him last start. "He was always traveling well and when I got to the top of the straight I gave him a squeeze and he flew home,” Moreira said. Trusting's trainer, John Thompson, said he wasn't surprised with the ease of the five-year-old's win. "He's an awesome horse. I don't think I've ever been so confident going to the races with a horse,” Thompson said. "He's an absolute ball of energy but when one went around him he just relaxed.” Thompson said Trusting would either "run in The Metropolitan or head straight to Melbourne” where a possible start in the Caulfield Cup awaits. "He's back. Everybody has always known he was the real deal,”” he said. Bred by John Camilleri’s Fairway Thoroughbreds, Trusting was foaled and raised at Coolmore before being purchased by Patinack Farm for $300,000 from the Curraghmore Stud draft at the 2008 NZB Premier Yearling Sale and has won four races and $894,100 from 20 starts. Trusting is one of two winners from the Group II winning Zabeel mare Legible, who was acquired privately by Patinack Farm following the emergence of Trusting as a potential star. Legible has a yearling full sister to Trusting by Tale of the Cat. An accomplished shuttle sire that has proven successful for Coolmore in both hemispheres, Tale of the Cat remains in Kentucky this year owing to a slight illness before his scheduled departure.
