There was another success for Henrythenavigator on Sunday when the Aidan O’Brien-trained Cristoforo Colombo(2c Henrythenavigator-La Traviata, by Johannesburg) booked his ticket to Royal Ascot when making an impressive winning debut at Navan.
The half-brother to last year’s G1 Middle Park Stakes winner Crusade took the six-furlong comfortably from Scream Blue Murder (2f Oratorio-Holly Blue, by Bluebird) and the G2 Coventry Stakes could now be a target. “He is likely to be part of the Royal Ascot team,” confirmed Tammy O’Brien, representing the winning connections.
“He jumped and travelled well and was quite green in front,” jockey Joseph O’Brien told
The Racing Post’s Analysis noted: “Most of the top stables were represented and probably one of the better maidens we’ve seen so far this season… CRISTOFORO COLOMBO … made a mockery of those market vibes with a thoroughly professional display. After breaking well, he was soon to the fore and his rider made his move 2f out when kicking a few lengths clear and needed only to be ridden out hands and heels to score decisively. Royal Ascot is next on the agenda, possibly for the Coventry.”
