Champion miler Henrythenavigator was represented by a runaway winner at Sandown in Australia on Wednesday when Yesterday’s Songs (3g Henrythenavigator x Sarah Vee, by End Sweep) won as he pleased.
Prepared by Mike Moroney, Yesterday’s Songs improved on his debut third at Bendigo last month to race right away and win the 1300 metre maiden by five and a half lengths as a well backed favourite.
“He’s a horse that has been quite slow maturing but always shown us a lot and we rate him highly,” Moroney said.
“It looked like a strong maiden today. He looked to be travelling very easily on the turn and the way he rounded them up was impressive.
“I think with all the issues (shin-soreness) he has had, we will keep going with him through the grades as he is four next month.”
A $160,000 NZB Premier purchase for his trainer from the Curraghmore stud draft, Yesterday’s Songs is a half-brother to Group II placed Rahveel from stakes-winning End Sweep mare Sarah Vee.
The last Australian bred progeny of Henrythenavigator are weanlings and his oldest are three year-olds.
