Requinto got off to the best possible start with his second crop 2YO’s on Saturday when Requinto Dawn (2c Requinto x Till Dawn, by Kheleyf) won the Brocklesby stakes at Doncaster. Bred by Thomas Murphy, the Richard Fahey trained colt put up a very impressive performance, going clear of the field under a hand ride. Fahey commented “he’s got a lot of speed. He’s a real two-year-old, so we’ll keep going with him”.
Requinto had a whopping 55% strike rate with his first 2YO’s in 2016 and has several exciting 3YO prospects to follow this season. Viola La Terra looked a blacktype filly winning her maiden at Chantilly on 14 Mar for Francis-Henri Graffard and runs next in the G3 Prix Vanteaux. Richard Hannon’s smart Newbury maiden winner Warrior’s Spirit is also touted as Pattern class. Others include Kevin Prendergast’s unbeaten filly Trevanna, William Haggas’ highly-rated Mojito and Richard Fahey’s Newcastle winner Six Strings who is reported to be progressing well.
Strong sales results for Requinto followed all the racetrack success with yearlings in 2016 selling for up to €155,000 and foals for up to €85,000. Standing at Castlehyde Stud, the future looks bright for this speedy sire with his biggest and best books yet to come!
