Oscar’s son Days Hotel (8g Oscar-Call Catherine, by Strong Gale) secured his third G2 success on Sunday when winning the two-mile G2 paddypower.com Chase at Naas under Andrew Lynch.
Realt Dubh, who Days Hotel had beaten by six length in the G2 Hilly Way Chase in December, was challenging for the lead when blundering at the last and trainer Henry de Bromhead was delighted by the winner’s efforts.
“His jumping won it for him and he had to do it the hard way. He set a good gallop and jumped well all the way,” de Bromhead told irishracing.com “I’m delighted for the owner as he’s been great since the horse came back from injury. That’s two Grade 2s the horse has won now (since coming back) and he keeps improving.”
Days Hotel races in the colours of his breeder James Treacy and – despite finishing fourth last time out on testing ground over 2m 4f in the Kinloch Brae Chase – de Bromhead does not rule out stepping the eight-year-old up in trip again.
“The G2 Normans Grove at Fairyhouse (on April 2) is probably the obvious one now especially if he gets some ease in the ground. The Kinloch Brae at Thurles was too far on heavy ground but I wouldn’t mind stepping him up in trip again on better ground.”
