Johnston 2yo wins G3 for Mastercraftsman

Dessertoflife (Mastercraftman) winning the Zukunftsrennen (Gr.3) at Baden Baden

Mark Johnston sent Dessertoflife (2f Mastercraftsman-Cranky Spanky, by Spectrum) on a successful raid to Baden Baden in Germany on Wednesday when landing the G3 Zukunftsrennen under Joe Fanning.

The Mastercraftsman filly, who was bred by Angelo Robiati, holds a number of big-race entries and is likely to head to the G1 Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket on her next start following this easy win.

“She is a really nice sort,” Johnston told the Racing Post. “I wasn’t expecting her to be a two-year-old winner and she’ll improve. The owners (T T Racing) have been with me for 20 years and she’s easily the best they’ve ever had.

“In fact, she is their first ever runner in a Group race. She’ll have one more race this season, probably in the G1 Fillies’ Mile.”

Fanning was equally impressed and added: “It was easy and she’ll be even better next year.”
