A long shot when winning the Grade I Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies (pictured) at the start of the month, Take Charge Brandi (2f Giant’s Causeway x Charming, by Seeking the Gold) confirmed that form when winning the Grade III $400,000 Delta Downs Princess Stakes on the weekend.
Sent out in top order by D Wayne Lucas, Take Charge Brandi tracked the leader and then accelerated to win the one mile contest by a length and a half taking her overall record to three wins from seven starts with $1.4 million in the bank.
A $435,000 Keeneland September purchase for Willis Horton, Take Charge Brandi is the second winner from Charming, a half-sister by Seeking the Gold to Grade I winners Will Take Charge and Take Charge Indy from triple Grade I winner Take Charge Lady.
Giant’s Causeway is having a hot year with his two year-olds and made it a juvenile stakes double when Mississippi Delta (2f Giant’s Causeway x Texas to a Tee, by Purge) claimed her first Black Type success in the Glorious Song Stakes at Woodbine.
The Mark Casse trained filly was favoured to win and took the seven furlong contest by two lengths and has now won two of three starts earning just shy of $100,000 in prizemoney.
Mississippi Delta is a three-quarter sister-in-blood to Grade II winner and million dollar earner Cowboy Cal being the first winner for Texas to a Tee, who is a half-sister to Cowboy Cal, also by Giant’s Causeway.
Mississippi Delta becomes the 145th stakes-winner worldwide for champion sire Giant’s Causeway.
