King Leon on High for Mountain

J P McManus’s King Leon (5g Mountain High-None The Wiser, by Dr Massini) became Mountain High’s latest winner at Ballinrobe on Tuesday evening when landing a maiden hurdle under Robbie Power.

Aidan O’Brien trains the Ronan Keane-bred five-year-old, a former bumper performer, and connections believe that Mountain High is going to prove even better over fences.

“We always thought he was a jumper and this will be his game. Whatever he does over hurdles will be a bonus as he will make a lovely chaser. He stays really well,” jockey Robbie Power told

“I didn’t want to make it but he jumped the first two hurdles so well that he ended up in front and we know he stays really well. He is going to make a lovely chaser one day.”

J P McManus’s racing manager added: “That was grand – he battled away well and he jumped well. He is big enough to jump a fence down the road and we will see where we’ll go from here.”
