The Diamond One 400

Kiwi Grade Three Winner for Tale of the Cat

Talented mare The Diamond One (5m Tale of the Cat x The Jewel, by O’Reilly) posted her first win of 2015 when she took out the Group III White Robe Lodge Handicap at Wingatui in New Zealand for the second year in a row. The win was an emotional one as her trainer Steve Anderton passed away in Dunedin Hospital on Tuesday from injuries suffered in a float accident on his property the previous day. The Diamond One ran in the name of Anderton and his wife Claire and the gifted mare did her bit to provide a result the grieving family and the thoroughbred industry had hoped for. Fourth in the Grade I New Zealand Thousand Guineas as a three year-old, the Diamond One has always shown above average ability and has the overall record of six wins and six placings from 16 starts with prizemoney nearing $180,000. Retained to race, The Diamond One is a half-sister to stakes-placed The Glitzy One and is the best of three winners for dual Group I winning O’Reilly mare The Jewel, who comes from the family of numerous Group I winners including The Phantom and The Phantom Chance. Tale of the Cat has achieved success all over the world and is still going strong in the US. The 21 year-old stands at a fee of $30,000 in 2015.
