La Pomme doubles up in G2 for Peintre

The late Guy Reed’s colours were carried to victory for a second consecutive year in the G2 Prix de Pomone at Deauville on Saturday by the Andre Fabre-trained La Pomme D’Amour (5m Peintre Celebre-Winnebago, by Kris).

The Peintre Celebre mare was also bred by Reed, who died in July, and landed the extended 12-furlong event by three-quarters of a length under Flavien Prat.

Fabre told TDN: “She has always been a good mare but needs good ground or faster – that is the key to her. She could possibly run in the G1 Prix Vermeille (at Longchamp on September 15).”
