Laganore is another G1 star for Fastnet Rock

The brilliant Laganore (5m Fastnet Rock-Lady Bones, by Royal Applause) brought another European top-level success for Fastnet Rock on Sunday.

Home-bred by Maurice Regan’s Newton Anner Stud, Laganore was an easy G3 winner on her previous run and stepped up again to land a comfortable two-length success in the G1 Premio Lydia Tesio in Rome.

It was a first top-grade victory for both trainer Tony Martin and Colin Keane, who is bidding for a first Irish jockeys’ championship. “Colin was brilliant, just as he's been all season,” Martin told the Racing Post. “The mare won easily and we’re delighted because she has her Group 1 win now. But this was Maurice’s plan and all of the credit needs to go to him because he'd the foresight to bring her here and it’s paid off. "We’ll see what we do after this but I’d say it’s likely that she’ll be retired as she looks to be a valuable broodmare.” Keane added: “Winning my first Group 1 is the cherry on top of what has been a brilliant season. I rode her at Gowran last time and she did it very well again today. I’m delighted.”
