Listed success for Mahler

Exciting young sire Mahler had a black-type success at Naas on Sunday when Sutton Place (5g Mahler-Glebe Beauty, by Good Thyne) carried the colours of J P McManus to victory in the Listed Irish Racing Writers Kingsfurze Novice Hurdle. A bumper winner in January, the James Leahy-bred five-year-old was the least-experienced runner in the two-mile contest but came home six and a half lengths clear of Royal Caviar under Barry Geraghty. “He had a good run first time at Navan and then won his bumper. I thought it would be too big a step today but he seems to be improving the whole time," said winning trainer Gordon Elliott. "He's really a chaser and looks a proper horse for the future."
