Trainer Tim Doyle has a G1 target in mind for Mallowney (9g Oscar-Silkaway, by Buckskin) after the son of Oscar stormed clear of a competitive field in the Grade A Dan Moore Memorial Handicap Chase at Naas on Sunday.
The nine-year-old, who was bred by Doyle’s wife Claire, came home 10 lengths clear of his rivals under Davy Russell in the 2m 1f contest and the G1 Boylesports Champion Chase at the Punchestown Festival is a likely target later in the season.
“He never runs a bad race but I thought he was exceptional today. He was up against Grade 2 horses and beat them at his ease,” Doyle told irishracing.con.
“He’ll go for the G2 Newlands Chase at Naas at the end of February but won’t go to Cheltenham. We’ll stay at home. His end of season target is the G1 Boylesports Champion Chase at the Punchestown Festival.”
