Million Dollar Fastnet Colt Wins Karaka 3YO Mile

Already a Group I winner having won the NZ 2,000 Guineas last year, glamour colt Rock ‘n’ Pop (3c Fastnet Rock x Popsy, by Sir Tristram) added the $100,000 Karaka 3YO Mile to his credit at Ellerslie on Sunday. The Jason Bridgeman trained colt scored a determined nose win in the 1600 metre feature as a hot favourite. A $1million purchase for Jayven See from the Esker Lodge draft at the 2010 NZB Premier Yearling Sale, Rock ‘n’ Pop is raced by the Te Akau Rock ‘n’ Pop Syndicate and has won three races and run second twice from just six starts earning $308,175 in prizemoney. A three-quarter brother to stakes-winner Lilakyn, Rock ‘n’ Pop is one of eight winners from Group I New Zealand Derby winner Popsy, who is by champion sire Sir Tristram. Rock ‘n’ Pop is one of four Group I winners this season for red hot sire Fastnet Rock, who was the busiest stallion in Australia in 2011 covering 224 mares.
