Montjeu’s son is all Class

Class Is Class (5g Montjeu-Hector’s Girl, by Hector Protector) lived up to his name with an impressive success in Listed company at Sandown on Friday.

The son of Montjeu powered home four lengths clear of his rivals in a classy renewal of the Listed Gala Stakes over 10 furlongs and he looks sure to make his mark in Group company this season. The Sir Michael Stoute-trained Class Is Class had come on from his seasonal debut, when beaten a head in a Goodwood Listed race.

“We were hopeful beforehand, but I think Sir Michael had been 20-odd days without a winner and it was a tough race,” said Trinidad-based Pierpont Scott, who owned and bred the five-year-old in partnership with Rayaz Ahamad and family.

Bloodstock agent Richard Frisby told “Ryan (Moore) said he settled very well and he was very pleased with him. He has a nice long stride and the obvious next step would be to look for a 10-furlong G3.”
