Dylan Thomas’s admirable son Pether’s Moon (4c Dylan Thomas-Softly Tread, by Tirol) landed his third consecutive Group victory on Saturday when capturing the G3 Cumberland Lodge Stakes at Ascot.
The four-year-old looked than better ever as he fought off G1 winner Parish Hall to add the 12-furlong contest to his ever-increasing tally of Group victories. Richard Hannon’s charge, bred by Michael Daly, took the G3 Glorious Stakes (pictured) at Goodwood in August and the G2 International Bosphorous Cup in Istanbul the following month.
Connections are now considering a trip to Dubai next year. “We gave Encke 5lb and gave him a sound beating and Parish Hall 2lb and he’s a good horse,” said owner John Manley. “And I think we might be making for Dubai. We’ll let the horse down a bit now but we don’t want to give him too long off as he’s a gross horse.”
Jockey Pat Dobbs was impressed with his mount and added: “He has plenty of class and when you see the size of him you realise that he’s a bit special to do what he did as a two-year-old. He came back from Turkey very well and takes his races very well. He has a great cruising speed and only does enough to win in a race.”
