More Stakes Success for Scat Daddy

Celestine (Scat Daddy) winning at Gulfstream

Progressive filly Celestine (3f Scat Daddy x Mona Mia, by Monarchos) added another stakes victory to her growing tally when taking out the $100,000 Wild Applause Stakes at Belmont on the weekend.

Previously trained by Bill Kaplan, Celestine is now with Bill Mott and was having her second run for her new trainer in the one mile turf contest, emerging triumphant in scoring a tenacious nose win.

“It was a good trip, we didn’t know where we’d be,” Mott said.

“We thought we could be laying first or second just looking at the race on paper, but she rated nicely, the one horse [Lismore] decided to go and showed some speed and our filly did what [jockey Rajiv Maragh] wanted her to do, and then finished up well enough to win.

“She’ll probably go to the [GII] Lake George [July 24] in Saratoga. That would be my guess.”

A $100,000 Keeneland September Yearling, that passed in at the OBS June 2YO Sale at $975,000, Celestine runs for James Bryan and has won four of seven starts earning over $200,000.

Now a three time stakes-winner, she is a half-sister to stakes-placed Haunted Heroine from minor winner Mona Mia.
