Harlem River (Fastnet Rock)

New Juvenile Stakes-Winner for Fastnet

Second in Black Type races at her first two starts, talented filly Harlem River (2f Fastnet Rock  x Harlem Heat, by Xaar) broke her maiden with an emphatic victory at the Gold Coast on Saturday in the Listed Tatts 150 Years of Tattersalls Stakes. Trained by Gai Waterhouse and ridden by Tommy Berry, Harlem River led throughout and kicked clear to win the 1400 metre contest by a length. A $180,000 Inglis Easter purchase for bloodstock agent Anthony Penfold from the Yarraman Park draft, Harlem River runs in the Coolmore navy blue and has won over $113,000 in her first preparation. Stable representative Mark Newnham said the interstate trip has matured Harlem River. "She’s come on quickly, especially with the trip to Queensland and that can make a horse,” Newnham said. "Coming here they get to travel away, it just matures them and it’s nice to get a winner for Coolmore.” Bred by Yarraman Park, Harlem River is the best of three winners from Harlem Heat and her full brother Botany Bay won his second race at Pakenham on Friday for Team Hawkes, so it’s a family on the improve. Harlem Heat is a half-sister by Xaar (GB) to smart stakes-winners Hot as Hell, Craig’s Dragon and Flaming Hot. She is the 78th stakes-winner for champion sire Fastnet Rock.
