Improving filly Coarsegold (3f Giant’s Causeway x Cool Spell, by Grand Slam) claimed her first Black Type victory in the $55,000 Secret Grace Stakes at Gulfstream, but she was not first past the post.
The Mark Hennig trained filly copped a rough run in transit and was pushed wide in the straight with stewards disqualifying the winner Swear Me In and pushing her back to third place.
As a result, Coarsegold was declared the winner, taking her overall record to two wins and four placings from seven starts with prizemoney just shy of $100,000.
“I’ll take it,” said Mark Hennig.
“I once won a stakes in New York a few years back with a horse that finished third and they took the first two down.
“She (Coarsegold) got pinched in the first turn and I think she took the worst of it at the top of the stretch when the other horse came out. I was proud of her re-rallying after that. They can’t take the black-type away now.”
Coarsegold is the first stakes-winner for her dam Cool Spell, a stakes-winning daughter of Grand Slam.
