Astute trainer Terri Rae has been in no rush with Madam Victoria (3f High Chaparral x Royal Madam, by Personal Escort) and her patience reaped a black type reward for the promising filly at Wingatui on Saturday.
The Riccarton trainer’s patient approach saw the three-year-old win her first two starts last year and she was then beaten for the first time in the Listed Gore Guineas where she suffered an interrupted run. She also tied up after the race and was in season.
Given a short break by Rae, Madam Victoria returned to produce a clear-cut win in Saturday’s Listed NZ Bloodstock Air Freight Stakes.
Bred and raced by former All Black Bevan Wilson and his wife Robyn, she is now the joint leader with seven points in the race for the NZB Southern Filly of the Year title.
Madam Victoria is the 53rd stakes-winner for High Chaparral and comes from the family of Group winners Nearly Pal’s and Fazzle.
