New Zealand Stakes-Winner for Power

Talented youngster Gift Of Power (2f Power x Capital Diamond, by Lucky Unicorn) at Trentham posted a tenacious victory at Trentham on Saturday providing her young sire Power with his first Southern Hemisphere stakes-winner.

Successful on debut at Wanganui last month, Gift of Power made it two wins in as many starts when she dug deep to beat Waldorf in the Listed Swiss Ace @ Westbury Stud Wellesley Stakes.

Gift Of Power runs for a syndicate that includes her breeders Sir Patrick and Lady Hogan, who shuttle her sire to Cambridge Stud.

“She didn’t like that ground, it was her class got her through,” said Graeme Rogerson, who trains in partnership with his wife Debbie. “She’s not a mud runner, she’s too brilliant. I think she’s something special.”

A start in the Listed Barneswood Farm Welcome Stakes at Riccarton on November 12 is now being considered for Gift Of Power, who is also Karaka Million eligible.

A $180,000 NZB Premier purchase from the Cambridge Stud draft, Gift of Power is the first foal of the Group I NZ 1000 Guineas place-getter Capital Diamond, a grand-daughter of celebrated Group I winner and producer Diamond Lover.

A dual Group I winning son of Oasis Dream, Power has made an encouraging start to his stud career in the Northern Hemisphere where he has sired Group III winner Peace Envoy and stakes-winner Biz Power.
