Ratiocination (3c Excelebration-Denebola, by Storm Cat) made an exciting start to his racing career at Chantilly on Sunday when landing a newcomers’ maiden.
Home-bred by the Niarchos family out of the G1 Prix Marcel Boussac heroine Denebola, the first-crop Excelebration colt oozed class with his cosy victory.
The three-year-old is a possible contender for the G1 Prix d’Essai des Poulains and trainer Pascal Bary is considering a tilt at the colts’ Classic.
“The big race is in four weeks’ time but there will be others later,” Bary told JDG. “He’s a very classy colt and is already very professional. He has learned quickly and is already the best product of his mother, Denebola.
“I have always liked this colt. He had not run as a two-year-old because he was quite a late foal but he has really flourished this year.”
