Oaks Contender for High Chaparral

Promising filly Ballet Suite (3f High Chaparral x Suitely, by Woodman) broke her maiden in good style at Bendigo on Wednesday and has aspirations towards the Group I VRC Crown Oaks.

Stepped up to 1600 metres at her third start, the Mark Kavanagh trained Ballet Suite produced a strong staying effort to win comfortably by half a length for Glen Boss.

She will now be tested against better company with the Group II VRC Edward Manifold Stakes a possible option as she heads on a path to the Oaks at Flemington on November 6.

“She is a lovely horse, beautifully put together and a nice, big strong girl,” Kavanagh said.

“The longer the races get the better she is going to be. She still has a bit to learn, but there is certainly plenty of raw talent there.”

A $310,000 NZB Premier purchase for UK based agent Anthony Penfold from the Curraghmore Stud draft, Ballet Suite runs in the Coolmore navy for a large syndicate and is a half-sister to stakes-winner Casquets and Group III placed Merensky Reef.

Bred by Raffles Dancers, Ballet Suite is the fifth winner from five to race from Suitely, a placed half-sister by Woodman (USA) to Group II winner Flak Jacket.

Making it a double at Bendigo for High Chaparral was lightly raced four year-old mare Fluorescent (4m High Chaparral x Argante, by Star Way), who scored her second win from five starts when saluting over 2400 metres for Team Hawkes.

Bred and retained to race by Windsor Park Stud, she is a full sister to classy stayer Monaco Consul, who won both Group I VRC Victoria Derby and ATC Spring Champion Stakes as well as finishing third in a Caulfield Cup.

Star Thoroughbreds and Gai Waterhouse provided the third winner for High Chaparral when White Dove (4m High Chaparral x Angel Dreamer, by Street Cry) made it back-to-back wins at Canterbury.

She scored by more than a length over 1900 metres and has now won three of six starts earning over $60,000 in prizemoney.

A $100,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Star Thoroughbreds from the Windsor Park Stud draft, White Dove is the first winner for Angel Dreamer (USA), a placed sister to Group I winner Majestic Roi.
