Lookin At Lucky Head Shot

Oaks Winner for Lucky

Promising filly Try Your Luck (3f Lookin at Lucky x Golden Sphinx, by Storm Cat) raced away to a resounding win in the $188,720 Dueling Ground Oaks on Sunday. Claimed by her current owners for $75,000 out of a narrow second-place effort on the Gulfstream turf on February 8, the Michael Maker trained filly has been racing well of late and won the Grade III Pucker Up Stakes at Arlington last month only to lose the race when disqualified for causing interference. She was in a class of her own for this assignment, powering clear to win the 1 and 5/16th mile contest on turf by more than seven lengths, her third win from 10 starts with prizemoney topping $225,000. “That was impressive. I’d say she’d been hard luck,” winning trainer Mike Maker said. “Hard luck at Churchill, stuck behind horses with no pace. Same thing at Indiana. Got DQ’ed last time. She’s very deserving to be a stakes-winner.”

Try Your Luck is the 15th stakes-winner for Lookin at Lucky and is a half-sister to stakes-placed High Quality from Golden Sphinx.
