The Aga Khan’s home-bred Takar (3c Oratorio-Takarouna, by Green Dancer) bounced back from a below-par run in the G1 Irish 2,000 Guineas to run away with the Listed Glencairn Stakes at Leopardstown on Thursday night.
John Oxx’s charge had previously failed to put a foot wrong, winning a maiden by eight lengths as a juvenile and scoring impressively in a Listed event on his seasonal comeback this year.
The three-year-old was back to his best on Thursday as he proved far too good for his rivals in the Glencairn Stakes over a mile, eventually scoring by four and a quarter lengths.
“He’s back on track now,” said the Aga Khan’s Irish stud manager, Pat Downes, to www.racingpost.com. “We were very disappointed with him at the Curragh, but he handles this soft ground and maybe it was just too quick for him that day. We’ll take stock now and look for a Group 3.”
