Royally bred entire Point Piper (6h Giant’s Causeway x Imagine, by Sadler’s Wells) scored a career best win when racing to a dominant record breaking victory in the $200,000 Longacres Mile Handicap at Emerald Downs on Sunday.

Now with Jerry Hollendorfer after originally starting his career in Ireland with Aidan O’Brien, Point Piper won a stakes race in the US last year but upped the ante when racing away to take this one mile feature by four and three-quarter lengths.

The final time of 1:32.9 broke the stakes and track record of 1:33 set by Sky Jack in 2003.

“He was relaxed,” said winning rider Mario Gutierrez.

“He broke good and he had a good trip. Everything opened up for us and he exploded in the stretch.”

Point Piper has the overall record of five wins and nine placings from 24 starts with prizemoney topping $380,000.

A son of champion sire Giant’s Causeway, Point Piper is a sibling to Group I winner Horation Nelson and Group II winners Viscount Nelson and Kitty Matcham being the fourth stakes-winner from Champion 3YO Filly Imagine, winner of the Irish One Thousand Guineas and Epsom Oaks.
