Scat Daddy Colt Working Back to Best

El Kabeir (Scat Daddy) winning the Jerome Stakes (Gr.3) at Aqueduct

Talented colt El Kabeir (3c Scat Daddy x Great Venue by Unbridled’s Song) was a two time Graded winner at the start of the year and showed he was on his way back when taking out the $100,000 City of Laurel Stakes over the weekend.

Sidelined over the summer as the result of a foot issue, El Kabeir finished out of the placings in the Grade III Bold Ruler Handicap on October 31, but looked more like his old self for this easier assignment over seven furlongs.

The John Terranova trained colt settled off the pace and finished doggedly to snatch a nose win.

“Since he came back training he hasn’t missed a beat,” John Terranova said.

“He ran a couple a weeks ago in the Bold Ruler–a tough race to come back in. Today, he had to grind it out a little late. Once we put him back in route races, that’s when I think we’ll see him coming back into top form.”

A $250,000 OBS August Yearling purchase, El Kabeir runs for the Zayat Stable and has the overall record of five wins and four placings from 11 starts with prizemoney of $834,892.

El Kabeir is the first winner for unraced Great Venue, a half-sister to Grade II winner Too Much Bling.
