Scat Daddy Juveniles on Fire at Saratoga!

Azar (Scat Daddy) winning the Anticipation Stakes (Gr.2) at Saratoga

Red hot sire Scat Daddy was in the frame at Saratoga again on Wednesday when talented colt Azar (2c Scat Daddy x Miss Ocean City, by Mineshaft) broke his maiden in the $200,000 Grade II With Anticipation Stakes.

The Todd Pletcher trained Azar showed good improvement from his first start to his second and upped the ante again for this tougher assignment.

He travelled smoothly back in the field and accelerated to the line to win the 1 and 1/16th mile turf contest by three-quarters of a length with another smart Scat Daddy in Unbridled Daddy (2c Scat Daddy x Unbridled Essense, by Essence of Dubai) in third place.

“It worked out better today,” said winning rider John Velazquez.

“The last time he ended up being on the lead and getting out and looking around and wasn’t really focused on what he needed to do. Today he was following somebody and when I pulled him out, he responded right away.”

A $300,000 Keeneland September purchase, Azar runs for Alto Racing and is the first winner for Miss Ocean City, a half-sister to Grade III winner Woodlander and stakes-winner Admiral Alex.

He is the 54th stakes-winner for Scat Daddy and is his third Graded juvenile stakes-winner this year joining Pretty n Cool and Acapulco.

Scat Daddy made it a winning double when Nickname (2f Scat Daddy x Nina Fever, by Borrego) saluted in the six furlong maiden by more than three lengths at her third start.

Scat Daddy is currently leading the North American 2YO Sires List by winners and earnings.
