Scat Daddy’s Acapulco is Royal Ascot G2 heroine

Acapulco (Scat Daddy) winning the Queen Mary Stakes (Gr.2) at Royal Ascot

The Wesley Ward-trained Acapulco (2f Scat Daddy-Global Finance, by End Sweep) rewarded those who backed her into favouritism for the G2 Queen Mary Stakes at Ascot with a scintillating victory on Wednesday.

The American raider, partnered by Ryan Moore, cruised into the lead in the race’s closing stages and looked value for more than his length and a half winning margin.

“Acapulco is a sweetheart, what a lovely filly. She has immense talent and immense speed and really proved it today,” said Ward. “I was very disappointed after her first run [she finished third] and I did something very unconventional and breezed her right back in seven days time and it was the most phenomenal breeze I’ve ever had.

“I think she’s got a big future on turf, she’s a beautiful, gorgeous filly and to look at her you’d think she was four.”

Moore added: “She is a big tough filly who has bags of speed and keeps on finding. Her attitude is fantastic and she will keep on improving. Wesley said she is like a four-year-old and she rides like one.

“She has a great attitude and loads of pace. I wasn’t even that quickly away, but she cruised up and had far too many gears for them.”

Acapluco was bred by Dr Charles Giles and was bought for $750,000 at this year’s OBS March Sale.
