Scorpion had two potentially classy winners in Britain on Friday.
The Gary Moore-trained Bagging Turf (6m Scorpion-Monica’s Story, by Arzanni) justified odds-on favouritism to capture a two and a half mile novices’ hurdle at Sandown and connections feel she has quite a future.
“She’s still a big baby and the race wasn’t run to suit her,” said Moore of Mary Devine’s home-bred (pictured). “A stronger pace and bigger field would suit her and she’ll be better going over fences next season. But she’ll have another run over hurdles this season for experience.”
On the same afternoon, Swizzler (7g Scorpion-Arch Hall Lady, by Luso) brought another odds-on success for Scorpion when taking a beginners’ chase at Leicester.
“He has some scope over fences and won nicely,” said trainer Ian Williams.
A winning pointer two years ago, Swizzler was bred by Kathleen Hoey.
